Winnipeg experiences hot humid summers with plenty of thunderstorms and cold windy and dry winters. Spring and autumn make up the short transitional seasons in between, which are generally temperate. Visiting the city during any season can be rewarding due to the wealth of activities, events and festivals on offer.
Book a flight to Winnipeg from June through August when the days are long and the temperatures are warm but very tolerable, on average in the low teens to mid-20s C. Visit during these months to spend your trip hiking or fishing or at one of the annual festivals, such as, Winnipeg BBQ & Blues Festival. It’s best to pack an umbrella if you visit during summer.
Although travellers still need to wrap up warmly some days during spring and autumn, they can take advantage of less rainfall than summer and less snowfall than winter. Late spring (around mid-April to May) and early autumn (around September to early October) are both great times to book flights to Winnipeg. During these months the low average temperature is around -2 to 6°C and average high is 11 to 19°C. A holiday in April or May can also allow visitors to secure bargain accommodation.
Visitors looking to enjoy snow-based activities like skiing and snow-mobile riding should book flights to Winnipeg from November through to March. Make sure you pack warm clothing as the temperature can drop to a teeth-chattering -21°C. These months also host a variety of winter festivals which light up the town, for instance, Canad Inns Winter Wonderland.
Keep in mind it will be harder to find cheap flights to Winnipeg during busy periods, such as school and public holidays.

When I was going to board, one of the staff members told me that I could not board with my passport bag because it was tree items and I would need to check a bag. This was so stupid ! The bag was small. So I had to put my things in my pockets, put the funny bag inside the other bag. Then go throw it. Then in the plane put everything back again in my funny bag.

Situated on Canada’s vast prairies, Winnipeg is one of North America’s undiscovered highlights. Filled with theatres, cinemas, museums and restaurants, it is also a great location for water sports lovers and hikers alike.
The city of Winnipeg may be remote, but it is a modern cultural hub. There are plenty of museums to visit, such as the permanent exhibition about the history of the plains, whilst visitors can also enjoy walking tours of the historical French district. The city is littered with great theatres, such as the Royal Manitoba and the Manitoba Theatre for Young People, as well as superb opera venues and an excellent art house cinema at Cinematheque.
Winnipeg is also a venue for numerous lively festivals. Take a flight to Winnipeg in February for the winter Saison Voyageur, when haunting illuminations make the French quarter more beautiful than ever. Or visit during the city’s famed Folk Festival, one of the finest of its kind in North America.
Sport is another attraction. The city is home to a fine ice hockey team (the Jets) and an American Football team as well (the Blue Bombers) and has 6 public golf courses that are lovingly maintained.
The food of the region is also justly famous across Canada. Winnipeg is in prime fishing territory, and the city is known for dishes like smoked Goldeye – but has also lent its name to a gorgeous variant on cream cheese. There are also some excellent sushi restaurants to choose from.
Outside the city, Manitoba has plenty to offer the adventurous. Whether you adore canoeing, hiking, mountain biking, rafting or even cross-country skiing, Winnipeg is a great base for an energetic outdoor break. Alternatively, just relax to your heart’s content with a leisurely fishing expedition.
Winnipeg is really a city that is designed for driving, and the flat plains of Manitoba are similarly best explored with a rental car. Walking around the central districts is possible, and be sure to make use of the specially designed Walkway system which provides respite from the winter cold.
James Armstrong Richardson International Airport (YWG) is only around 5 miles (8 km) to the west of the city centre, making access to hotels relatively easy. Bus routes 15 and 20 leave the airport every quarter of an hour and are very good value. Taxis are always available, and there are even limousine hire facilities for luxury arrivals. All major car rental firms are also represented.
